Scout GPS Link App Reviews

Would expect more from TOYOTA

I NEVER write reviews but have to for this. I got my 2018 Camry and was so excited to use the navigation, turns out it only worked showing the map if you were connected by USB and your phone was unlocked. So I dealt with it and then boom, won’t work at all for the maps portion. Very poor choice for Toyota to go with this app! I spent $30K on a car for the navigation not to work! Thankfully I love everything else about my car but seriously how can the app not work with apple phones????

Horrible

The most annoying and horrible navigation app I have ever used. It is astonishing that Lexus and Toyota use this app for their vehicles and it doesn’t allow use of any other GPS system. Hate it! It fails when you need it most.

Worthless

Awful, at least coupled with Toyota Tundra.

OK

Okay

Just plain bad.

This app crashes every two minutes. When it isn’t crashing, the map is at least 8 years out of date. I can’t get it to work for more than the time it takes to back out of my driveway. Seems to be updated with bug fixes regularly (2 days before writing this review was the latest) that don’t seem to do anything. It has never gotten me to any destination. I just happily listen to the google lady interrupt my music to tell me to turn left or right. Seems like a total waste of a navigation system touch screen and multimedia player if this app is the only option. If I were the CEO of Toyota, I would tell the developers to start over from scratch and use current map data from somewhere other than Bing. And to also fix this for no financial recompense as I’m sure that this underdeveloped product is clearly a violation of any agreement a global company would enter.

Craptastic

Map worked for about 2 hours. Now all we see is turn by turn. And!!!!! It will drive you in circles. since you can’t see an overhead map you don’t realize it until you headed in the wrong direction. -1 Star.

Horrible. Hate it I payed too much money for 2018 Camry for this? We must sue.

Bad GPS. I’ll get you lost. Why can’t they put in a good GPS.

Always bet on heads!!!

This app is just like flipping a coin and always betting on heads!! I will log you out of your account in less than hour. Not sure what bug fixes are doing, not helping reliability!!!

Why use this?

I have an iPhone 7 plugged into this through Entune, and it only delivers turn-by-turn instructions w/ no actual map. I had my choice of 2-3 other used RAV4 CLE hybrids and chose this one for the navigation that would not need updating after a few years. As it turns out, I will never get much out of it. If you are a new buyer considering this option, go ahead and get full navigation.

What a scam!

I bought my Camry hybrid 2018 in October and have regretted paying more for the nav system. Never works. Does not recognize addresses that exist. If the phone rings, the system does not come back. Only works if it is tied to my phone by the cable. Does not function on its own or by Bluetooth. And you just can’t get a map unless you put in an address so no good if you are simply out exploring I rely on my Google maps and WAZE. I have an iPhone. And a mechanic advised not to have the phone attached to the cable all the time as it is not good for the phones battery

Average GPS

Links to my Toyota via the Toyota Entune system. Entune links to my iPhone. Entune and any associated apps are dependent on that link. Until just a few weeks ago, had crash problems because Apple had to fix a flaw in their IOS. Once the updated the IOS, crash problems disappeared. As for Scout GPS, seems to work as expected, except that it’s a little slow in telling you when to turn. It also needs to be updated in terms of changes to roads. It doesn’t always have the current routes. It’s interesting that the Toyota Avalon has gone to Google Maps.

Terrible

Absolute worst GPS. Toyota needs to make a change. We always have to turn it off and go to Google or the iPhone GPS. Gives bad directions. Crashes. Can not use phone while it is operating so passenger can not use my phone which she often does.

Unreliable

I have a 2017 tundra and have not been able to get this to consistently work since I bought the truck over a year ago. I have only successfully navigated using scout twice. I usually wind up putting and using the built-in map application on my phone. iPhone 7 Plus

Awful

I just purchased a new Rav4, and I love it...except for one thing. The GPS is absolutely awful! There is no excuse for it. Why Toyota doesn’t use Apple Play like Honda is beyond my comprehension. I also bought a Honda CRV on the same day as I bought the Rav4. Had I known then what I know now about the GPS, I would have bought another Honda and left the Rav4 on the dealer’s showroom floor. It’s that big a deal. Or should I say deal breaker? Stuart Kaufman

Got better BUT NEEDS WORK!

I have a Lexus NX 300, and at first, this app was the worse GPS app due to a connectivity issue with Enform 2.0. Since the latest iOS update, the app seems to work well but without connectivity issues when tethered to the USB cord 15 minutes into navigation. While sometimes you can fix this issue by unplugging and replugging, other times I have to restart the car to reset the infotainment system. The app looked cleaner since their update a few days ago. Recommendations: -Lane assist -speedometer -speed limit reminder -better rerouting (most of the time the app will make follow a specific route as opposed to taking an alternate route) - better timing for turning, seems delayed or it tells you to turn while you are turning. -reduce that big arrow box size that takes up half the screen, it so unnecessary to be that big. - provide more details in your map -suggest alternative route if the gps detects heavy traffic

I’ve owned my 2018 Camry Hybrid XLE with Entune 3.0 for about 5 weeks. It's beautiful car, but the Scout GPS has never worked properly. It only provides turn by turn directions, and not "moving maps” as advertised. I own and IPhone X, and when I called Toyota about the problem, they blamed Apple and it's new IOS 11 for the problem. I paid $1,800 extra for the Entune system, which I thought would interface seamlessly with my $1,000 iPhone X, but no such luck. What’s the real issue here

Worst app ever

The APP is horrible and if I had paid for it I would demand a refund. It cant guide you east or west or north or south. What a waste

Hardly works

I’m always surprised when this app works.

If Toyota can't fix this issue with Entune 3.0 and Scout not working or connecting to phones, they either need to find the issue and fix it, or give me the extra money I paid for the top of the line package to get the audio plus options and driver assist.

Needs to work

Aside from the moving maps not available; it’s always saying a download error now on my 2018 NX. The turn by turn navigation also freezes when it works. Hopefully it gets fixed otherwise this app is totally crap.

Garbage

Save yourself the frustration and if you buy a Lexus make sure you pay for the factory navigation. This app is useless. Works maybe 10% of the time, and in order to get it working again you have to go through a literal ten step process which involves restarting your phone, restarting Bluetooth, restarting the vehicle, deleting and reinstalling the app. Who has time for these shenanigans?! Lexus please give us an alternative to this or at the very least make this app work. I actually deleted this app from my phone as it constantly runs in the background and it’s completely useless! UPDATE: Contacted Lexus per Scout and Lexus blames Scout and Satellites? Stop playing the blame game and just fix it, please!
