The car is great in terms of the ride, performance, and handling. The Scout GPS is not user friendly. It is cumbersome, unreliable, and the maps are not current. On a 1-5 scale I rate it 0. The average rating across two sites (google and iTunes - almost 2,000 ratings) is 1.9, with complaints going back to 2016. Toyota needs to fix the problem, or make alternative maps available, such as google maps. A call to customer service resulted in a case number, and no resolution to my problem.
Scout GPS Link App Reviews
Login
Such a pain to have to login in each time. I never remember my password info. It’s should remember my login details
Absolutely rubbish
This is the most ridiculous garbage ever. 6 steps to get the scout GPS to display on the camry display. And then when you do manage to open it after frustrations, you cannot use your phone for anything else. The maps on car display will also disappear. Can toyota please do us all a favor and completely get rid of scout GPeice of garbage
Lacks iPhone X Support
After going to a second Toyota dealer, I found out this app does not function fully with iPhone X. Moving maps are not supported. Scout and Toyota inconsistently blame the app or Apple, when give that that this app is a key part of $20,000 purchase, seems like they should be able to resolve by rewriting the software. Either way, there needs to be a solution soon.
Needs constant maps
Overall it’s a decent app and I’m glad it is something that will connect to my car, but it’s not as good as google or Waze (or even its sister, Skobbler)for most of what I actually need. I am a visual person and I get a lot more out of having a map up at all times than I do from a list of directions. From what I have seen so far, directions always start the first mile or so with just the list (or when there are a bunch of turns coming up) but those are the times that I need the map most! As far as I can tell (from the few times that I’ve tried), there is no way to get directions and have at least part of the screen always showing a map.
Doesn’t work.
I have only been able to get the app to work twice. Every other time I try it, a message appears on the vehicle screen saying it is unable to connect, try again later. Am I missing an update or is the app just broke?
Map database is YEARS out of date
A local business I use a lot moved many years ago, but this app still shows their old address. I have zero confidence to use this app for any purpose, however insignificant.
I’m so mad, the App just does not work
I regret buying the 2018 Camry, Scout is so bad!!!! I feel Toyota owners need to form a community and sue the company for selling us such a piece of rubbish. Can someone take the lead and I’ll join.
App works fairly well
I would still prefer in dash navigation, but this work fairly well. Sometimes. Well actually maybe only works 30% of time. Keep the app up to date please, there is no reason why this app should look like it was made for iOS 3.0
Lacks iPhone X Support
After going to a second Toyota dealer, I found out this app does not function fully with iPhone X. Moving maps are not supported.
Scout GPS is a waste of money & time. I spend too much time trying to get the app to work & should've known something wasn't right when the dealer couldn't get it to work either but confidently told me, "I'm new at this. I'm sure you & your husband will have better luck than me." I've wanted to return my Camry since the 1st week of having it. I'm disappointed that Toyota would mislead its customers like this.
Pathetic
Bought a 2018 Camry and this is what they offer? Seriously! ? As advanced as Toyota has become in safety and other area they are treading on dated and even useless functions for the navigation and such. When the new iOS 11.2 came out the app has not worked...nothing! Come on Toyota, get your act together and get this thing straightened out. Don’t advertise it as such a great feature if you can’t keep it operational. Very disappointed!
Update***
So I updated my iPhone iOS to 11.2.5 and the full screen map started to work but there is a trick to it. I start Enform, start the car, start scout via Bluetooth with plugging it in via usb. Once the phone screen shows the app is connected then I plug in the usb cord from the car and it actually loads the full screen map on the car multimedia screen. Overall for a Navi that I don’t have to pay for it works great and serves its purpose. You do have to keep the scout app open on screen on your phone for the maps to show on the car screen.
GPS system
My scout hasn’t work in 30 days in my 2018 . It’s not working in my wife car! Took it to Toyota and they found 300 complaints on scout download . Toyota said they are aware of the problem, but there isn’t a fix for it . They will call me when they find new software. I say everyone that purchased a 2018 Camry with scout should file a class action lawsuit against Toyota. We paid extra for the Navigation that doesn’t work !! I’m calling Toyota Corporate tomorrow to complain and ask for my money back for the Nav . If we all complain they will Be forced to fix it ? call your local TV station
Good Idea executed Poorly
Was excited to have phone run gps in my 2017 RAV4. Experience is poor. 1) it never connects well. The music works great and connects fast. 2) when it is working (like my teenage son)it can’t find anything in the search like the local airport. 3) if it has traffics as the apps shows it keeps that a secret when driving. It’s not as good as my 1st gps in 2002. Toyota is caught in lie saying they have in car navigation and no word of improvement to come.
I have a 2018 Camry and from the day I drove the car, this app doesn't work in the moving map function - obviously the major reason to have this app. Countless messages to Toyota have resulted in zero customer satisfaction. Toyota's decision to go with Entunes when Apple Carplay and Android Auto were available is a major, major mistake! If Toyota doesn't solve this major blunder - and soon - I will be buying a different car from a different company. Shame on you, Toyota!
Very useless app
Supper buggy, can’t even use my nav on my 2018 camry se.
Doesn’t work in 3D
Doesn’t work each time I try to use in 3D moving maps. Won’t load on car display of my brand new 2018 camry. I have iOS 11.2.5. Fix it!
Terrible
Hardly ever connects to my car. Forgets my saved info after every use (if you want an app that asks if you want to set up your info every time you turn it on, this is the one for you). It’s setup doesn’t work, despite how often it asks you to run it (hitting save simply returns you to the menu with blank data fields, very fun)
Shame on Toyota
I don’t believe that a company like Toyota isn’t able to deliver a working app. There is something bigger going on here. There is no reason a simple app like this should not be working properly.
