Scout GPS Link App Reviews
Trash!!! Really Lexus !!!
So, so bad
I rarely take the time to leave app reviews, but I am doing this in the hopes that someone at Toyota takes a tally of just how many bad reviews this gets. To think that any amount of what I paid for my car went to lining the pockets of someone at Scout GPS makes me sick. I’ve got the same problems that have been documented here dozens of times already, and I will be contacting Toyota directly about it.
Steaming pile of disappointment
I purchased a brand new 2018 RAV4 with Entune Audio Plus, iPhone 8 with iOS 11.2.2. Every time I launch Scout GPS Link I see this error: “Could not complete request. Please try again later. (Code 200.1.0)” I’ve followed the instructions on Telenav’s website to unpair, uninstall, etc, multiple times with the same result. The error message above is all I see, so I have a 3 week old car with inoperable nav. But even when it briefly worked the app was terrible. First of all, it treats you like a child and doesn’t let you (or even a passenger) enter an address while moving. Then the voice recognition is laughable: in a stopped, quiet car I said “6880 29th” and up on the screen, I kid you not, it said “figs” and proceeded to list every restaurant and shop in the area with ‘fig’ in the name. Useless! The app constantly forgot my home address so I had to enter it manually as a destination. But when connected, the iPhone screen changes to the Scout logo and becomes inoperable. So you have to use the car’s touchscreen, which lags considerably. Turn by turn directions were OK, but I never got the moving map to work. While shopping for this car I test drove a Chevy Bolt with Apple CarPlay. It was paired, configured, and working in 5 minutes. There was no app to install, no account to create, and no drama. And the experience was superior in every way to this steaming pile of disappointment.
Worst navigation app. Regret buying Toyota
Worst app ever, never worked... always wrong directions without street names.. not sure how Toyota become heartless with introducing this in their vehicle. Regret buying Toyota vehicle just because of this navigation system
Don’t bother
Picked up a new RAV4 in October. The scout nav system has never worked right. Won’t connect with my phone most of the time. It says its connecting but....gotcha! It was included with the XLE package but you know the cost for the navigation system was figured in. In my opinion it’s a rip off. Toyota should either fix it or send us a check for the cost of this nav system. Paid for it but it doesn’t work! This is my 4th Toyota. When anything went wrong with the other cars it was fixed. Very disappointed.
Terrible
Recently bought a Lexus and this app is beyond awful. I have to log in every time and it won’t save any of my previous addresses. Instead of helping, it’s worse than driving with your phone up to your ear (dangerous). I usually end up using Siri instead. This app is a waste of memory space.
Garbage. Shame on Toyota
As with many others I was duped by the expectation of a normal reliable navigation system in my new 2018 Toyota Camry hybrid. Their Scout/Entune system, the ONLY system available even in the top-of-the-line 2018 Camry hybrid and only as part of a $1800 option package, is unreliable, cuts out, and is unsafe at any speed—it’s probably now a blessing that it’s now suddenly incompatible with Apple software. ALL the complaints on this board are accurate. Deserves a Zero Rating.
Very poor app
Won’t connect with iPhone 10 and latest apple iOS 11.2.2!!!! Kinda worthless.
The absolute worse app ever created.
Nothing about this app work.
Terrible ? Toyota puts Apple CarPlay in ONE by mid ‘18 yet all other models still in dark ages?! ?
Why? I hope this company goes out of business soon. I bought a new Lexus and this worthless app just ruins otherwise beautiful car. It doesn’t work. There’s no navigation map, just abysmal turn by turn directions. It sends me to work using the worst, longest routes. Toyota, please get rid of this garbage and allow us to just mirror Waze or any other fave Navi on car screen.
2018 Camry Electronics Awful!
After getting 2018 Camry because I loved Toyota, I would never recommend. GPS is awful and no Sirius.
The most stupid navigation system
I totally denied this ridicules app who ever invented this stupid app just made money for something stupid I spend a lot of money for my car technology but the scout GPS is an useless app is like a buy a car without technology I always have to have my cell phone hanging in the windshield of my car using the GPS of my phone
Awful
Just bought a new 2018 Camry. Love everything else about my car, but I hate this navigation system. Too bad its the only navigation available from Toyota. When I was car shopping I looked at some chevys. They had similar features, but you could use lots of different navigation apps (google, ways, apple) whatever you wanted. About the app: This app is the opposite of user-friendly. The app doesnt work well with the car. If I type an address into the app on my phone, it wont transfer to the app in my car. I have to re-type the address into my car. Every time I need to use it, I have to wait a good 7 minutes for it to load so I can type in an address. Forget about using the Bluetooth to help navigate, it wont find any points of interest unless I have the actual address, and even then it cant find it sometimes. The directions it gives are usually wrong or take you in a longer way. I cant for the life of me get it to save my home, work, or favorites. I will type them in, it will say saved, next time I open it, nothing there. It also doesnt predict what Im typing based on recent searches. As I just said it wont save my home address, so every time I need to go home from somewhere new, I have to put the entire address in. It also wont show me a map in the car unless I have it plugged into the USB and have the app running. This app is so awful and frustrating that most of the time I try to use it, I end up giving up and using google maps on my phone.
Waste of time
This is no doubt the worst app I have ever tried to use. I get frustrated inputting the same information multiple times; if I had an employee this incompetent, they would be fired. Bring your Garmin on a trip, this app is unreliable and with an iPhone you cannot get a moving map.
Awful!
Can’t get “just a map” to show me where I am. This app is CRAP. I can’t believe Toyota uses this piece of junk. A passenger should be able to search / enter a destination from the console or phone while driving but Nope! Completely useless.
Nothing but aggravation from this app
It won’t connect or it won’t get me where I need to go. Totally unreliable. I spent a lot of money with my local dealer (<38k with ads-ons, extended warranty). An integrated navigation system was a big selling point. It’s a feature that is very important to me. The fact that this is so poorly executed makes me hate this car that I otherwise really love. Toyota has really let me down. I’m afraid they let their dealers down too. Sending 2018 vehicles to market with this awful functionality is a huge mistake. This navigation system is a huge disappointment. Toyota needs to make this right and make it a top owner-loyalty priority. It’s a huge owner-loyalty liability. As a other review said, I will submit a VOC to Toyota through my dealer. In fact, while I was at my dealer for a follow up appt to set things up, another customer was there trading their brand new Camry back in due to these navigation system issues. Really, Toyota, you need to fix this ASAP.
This app
is BUGGY -somebody fix it PLEASE‼️
Terrible app, wont use it again.
The app only works once after you install it, then doesnt work again until you reinstall it. The map has very low grade graphics. Its only good points are that it gives you directions without interrupting your radio/music, and displays on the larger screen of the car (when it works). I figured I would give it another shot, but am still very disappointed. Its a good idea with very poor execution. I would expect better from Toyota. Ill continue to use Waze which is a far superior app.
Don’t Buy Toyota if you have an iPhone
Remember the airbag disaster? Well, you’d think they’d learn to try to fix the incapability of their Navigation System and Entune program with iPhone quickly and make compensations to new buyers NOW rather than tell them to tough it out until they work things out. If you are in the showroom reading this, WALK OUT, buy a Honda or something else. You cannot use your iPhone while on USB in the 2018 Toyoto. If you have already bought a Toyota then file a claim by calling 800-331-4331.
The worst
Telenav who is the App developer for Scout GPS should get out of the business. This is the worst app ever made. Telenav should try the vinyl siding business. They obviously know nothing about tech. This is my fourth Camry and it will be my last. I work from my car. I like having GPS in my car. Also, I paid for this nav package. Thankful for google maps. Of course Toyota isn’t stepping up and doing anything either. Do not pay for this technology.
