Scout GPS Link App Reviews

2017 Tundra TRD with a crapy gps.

Give you the wrong way, if it does connect... I reloaded app to my new iPhone and it crashes/freezes.

Hands down the worst navigation app ever

Let me start by pointing out it took two dealers multiple attempts to even get this app to launch on my vehicle. It does NOT play nice with iPhones. So it finally gets to where it works. This is where the real adventure begins. Highlights of the last year with this app have included: - Pulling over on the interstate to reboot my phone multiple times and shut off and restart the vehicle (isn’t that awesome in the city? See we are already having adventures) - An inability to reprogram the destination even from the passengers seat. Scout will only let you program it while in park. (More fun huh?) - Freezing up the entire Entune stereo requiring us to pull over and again restart the vehicle - Playing guess which exit because Scout uses rogue code names for roads that have nothing to do with the actual exit ... oh and about that ... it doesn’t use actual exit numbers ... adventure is awesome - A lot of where is Waldo moments once you get inside a mile of your destination ... scout doesn’t tell you which side of the road it is on or show you any cross streets.... nothing but a straight line and an arrow My advice? Hand a printed map to your three year old and they will perform better than this app. Or do what we do and just let Siri figure out where Waldo is and let Scout continue to sleep.

Terrible

I found it to be terrible. I had to use my Garmin GPS on recent trip. I am disappointed in Toyota. It is the worst feature on the 2018 Toyota.

Dissatisfied User

This app has worked successfully for me only once since I set it up on my vehicle and phone. I think I will be uninstalling it and just use Google Maps.

Good program missing things though

This is a great program but has some flaws 1. You have to keep it open on the screen to use the overhead view should be able to run in the background because now your phone is useless if you want the moving map 2. Doesnt allow you to pin point a spot on map like if you pull into a unknown area you cant tell it to mark this spot here and call it something so you can return later 3. Also need ability to let it know the road is not available so can reroute. 4. And need more categories in the near by menu like airports, parks and other things 5. Also ability to say “take only highways” or “take only backroads” on this trip or quickest way or shortest time or shortest way 6. Where is the speed limit on each road. I don’t use it because my Garmin tells me the speed also to help avoid a ticket There are a few more but will state them later

Unreliable link to entune

Sometimes it connects to the car stereo, sometimes it doesn’t. It is just pure luck. I no longer rely on it. Always have either imap or google.

Awesome idea but useless app

This app never ever works the way it is supposed to. I can’t use it in my Lexus, it doesn’t ever give me turn by turn directions, it just gets stuck and will not work. I have to open google maps on my phone and set it on my dash in order to get adequate directions. Google maps never fails me. The developer needs to see how low of a rating they are getting and step up or Lexus needs to use another company to use for the car navigation.

Horrible

App is supposed to connect to the Entune system in my Tundra to provide connected GPS. 9 out of 10 Times it will not connect to my system. I get a warning on my head unit that the app isn’t running but it is, even when I close and restart the app it still won’t connect. When it does connect it is ok but not a “real” gps system it just provides turn by turn instructions. I prefer to have a detailed map displayed. Had I know this app was so bad I would have paid more for the upgraded system with integrated nav, I will however be replacing the stock head unit with an aftermarket solution with a better gps.

Unreliable

I bought a 2018 Lexus ES 350 and I was shown how this app can be used compatible with my entertainment center. Most of the time the app on my iPhone will not link to the entertainment center in spite of a strong Bluetooth connection.

Was hopeful, but they missed the mark.

The concept and idea behind this is AMAZING. I have a Toyota RAV4 2017 but didn’t come with nav. I use my multimedia to connect to this app and see navigation through my phone to my car. AMAZING, but this app is so unreliable. It’s not fluid, doesn’t work all the time, crashed and won’t give turn by turn anymore, inaccurate location, and worst of all SLOW And laggy. I think it’s a great idea though and hoping for improvements so I can use daily.

What a mistake

Purchased a new 2018 Camry hybrid. I can’t believe how poor the scout gps system is. Needs to be tethered by usb to function on my display. Even worse, it used 27% of my battery usage the first day I had loaded it. Summary, eats up your battery and uses cellular data to function. Toyota really demonstrated that they did not take all of the downside to their customer into account in the decision to no longer offer a customer friendly, user friendly navigation system.

Great idea, poor execution

This app has the idea of what a user needs. It supposed to give you gps for your entune plus system. Having said that, they way the built this app is awful. Let me start that what you get on your display isn’t a real gps map driving system, but a list of turn by turn directions. It’s ok if you are absolutely not interesting in seeing a moving map, and only like to be told where to go. Even that is bad as it lacks a lot of information in their database to begin with. Anyway, the fault of this app is not just with the developer but also with the absolute worst system that Toyota has, which is entune. That is the real culprit overall and the main reason this app is terrible. Better use something else.

The WORST

I drive a Lexus and this is what I get as a navigation...SMDH!!! It’s a waste of space and time and very frustrating!!! I wish there was a space for no stars at all bcuz 1 star is too many for this navigation system.

A total disappoint

Toyota should not have this app. Just a waste of time getting to sync connect and just function. Piss poor

New phone No Display

Just got a new phone(iPhone 8+). Loaded the Scout App and of course it will connect to in car system. However only the background screen will show up (search, recent, etc). Just another example of how awful his system/App is.

Garbage

Totally unreliable. I just use wayz or google even though they don’t sync with the display in my Lexus. This app is crap

Poor!

I have Tundra love the truck! Was excited to find out it had Nav system! Wow what a disappointment! Overall very poor GPS system/app. Extremely slow, not even up to date! If I didnt have it in the vehicle (Toyota) I wouldnt even use it! Toyota needs to step up and either upgrade Navigation or fix it, maybe use a real system that works!

Worthless

We thought this would be great with our new Sienna. Tried to use but after the first couple tries gave up. We didn’t have a problem getting it to work it’s just not a good gps mapping. We now use our phones google maps. Would rather Toyota just make it so the phones screen could be displayed on the vans screen.

Useless app...

Sooooo frustrating..... it wont connect! Waste of time... now i bought a real GPS to use without the hassle like this scout trash app.

Complete Disappointment

The app does not work - at all - the four days I’ve owned the car. 2018 Toyota Camry SE has never connected to the iPhone 8plus but did to the 6plus. The Entune must not be currently working properly STILL even though it’s connected “supposedly” ... my talk to text still does not work. WTH TOYOTA!! Properly update and test your apps before installing them into ALL of your vehicles... I am SORELY DISAPPOINTED since I chose this car instead of others that my phone had no problems connecting to and using their GPS versions on their touch screens.
